USA Import Requirements

This is important information for US customers.

If you would like to order echeverias from us, you must first obtain an import permit from USDA-APHIS-PPQ, which is the US government agency responsible for plant protection and quarantine. This is essential if your order is to be accepted through US Customs. Failure to do so will see your purchases destroyed on arrival, without compensation.
There are no charges made by USDA-APHIS-PPQ for the issue of an import permit that allows you to get these Echeverias from us.
We have had to set a minimum quantity for any order, of 75 plants. Contact us to find out what your order will cost when you have made up a list of plants you would like. Our package prices include the costs of Australian Quarantine plant inspection, Export fees, any phytosanitary treatments, express shipping charges etc., We can also supply plants to groups of people that combine orders, to make one order, sent to one address.

Follow these steps to download the application form:

Download and print out the application for your permit to import plants or plant products, PPQ Form 587 (PDF format).
Complete all of the PPQ Form 587, writing in the following details:

Section 1
Fill out your name, address, and phone and fax numbers

Section 2
Check "NEW PERMIT"

Section 3: Plants or Plant Products to be Imported
Fill out the first entry in this section with following:
Country of Origin
: Australia
Scientific Names of Plants or Plant Products: Echeveria sp.
Plant parts: Unrooted Offsets

U.S. Port or Ports of Arrival: Not applicable

Section 4: Intended use
Check "GROWING"

Section 5: Means of importation
Check "AIR MAIL OR AIR PARCEL POST"

Section 6:
Sign it

Section 7:
Date it

Fax the permit application to USDA-APHIS-PPQ on (301) 734-5786 or mail it to:

Then email us to check on availability/number of plants. When we confirm your plants order, we'll also let you know how many parcels your order will be, and the total $US price of your order.

Usually, after a wait of 10-15 days you will receive from the USDA, the "green and yellow" mailing labels and other printed material to be posted to the exporter(us). The stickers look like this:

Once you get the "green and yellow" mailing labels and other material, send it promptly to us as directed by USDA-APHIS-PPQ, and the echeverias.com order form. We will require one "green and yellow" mailing label for each parcel of your order, as well as the PPQ Form 597 (APR 95) you get back with each application to the USDA. This PPQ Form 597 is the one with the tan coloured writing. You must post these items to us.
Once we receive the "green and yellow" mailing labels from you, we will:
1.Send you an email telling you how to pay for your order, locally by bank transfer.
2. Email us, notifying us when you have done this, and we will verify the transfer, then we:

Package your order according to USDA-APHIS-PPQ guidelines, attach a Phytosanitary Certificate etc. issued by the the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) after they pass an inspection, then send your plants by International Express Parcel Post. On entry into the USA, customs duty may be payable on your order at the post office of destination.
4. We will email you, to notify you that the parcel is on it's way, so you can make arrangements to be available when it arrives.
Other important information:
Check USDA's list of nonprohibited nursery stock, plants, and roots that are not subject to post-entry quarantine (PDF format) . (Echeverias come under "Succulents" = permitted.) Form PPQ Q37-5 (007.pdf)

Contact your local Customs Office for details of fees ( if any ), that may be due. As a rule, there are none.

Files in PDF format require a PDF file viewer such as Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange from Adobe Systems Incorporated. You should be aware that documents held in this format are typically much larger than simple text files.
