Echeverias like to be potted on every 2-3 months in summer, up to a 20 litre size pot. For a first preference in pots, we choose white plastic pots. Any light-coloured container is best in hot summer conditions. With a dark-coloured pot in a sunny position, the outer soil temperature inside the pot can reach 55C. This will destroy the outer root-ball. Concrete, sandstone and other porous pots need first to be sealed on the inside with Bondcrete or similar, to stop the pot acting as a wick, moving moisture from the mix into the atmosphere. One new idea is when using them in the garden, to keep them in their pot, and place this pot inside another sunken pot that is fractionally larger. This makes it very simple to lift them out if the weather gets extreme, or to change them around for different colour combinations.
